Exercise: Putting the News Feeds into use
In this article we will walk you through setting up a dedicated News layout and show you how the News Markers, News Feed window, and Reader window can be used in conjunction with each other. This is just an example of one possible way in which you may want to implement these features. LiveBriefs by MT Newswires, and Videos by Yahoo Finance and Bloomberg are all optional feeds that require additional subscriptions.
Click on the New Button and select Layout Tab
Select the top starter layout from the Blank Layout section
You will see the blank layout on your screen, select Chart in the top left layout window.
Select your preferred chart template from the charts list, for this example we will be using Blank Chart
Now that the chart is applied to your layout right click on it and select Edit Chart Properties
Select the Chart Markers tab and check the box next to news and select all news feeds then click OK
In the bottom left tool window click on News
Select Top News Stories
In the final blank tool window click on News again
Select All News & Notes
Click on the Read Story/Watch Video pop out button next to one of the news stories in the News Feed window
This button appears when you hover your mouse over one of the story headlines
Click the move button at the top of the Reader window
Select the Left arrow in the large tool window
You now have a news oriented layout that contains 4 tool windows, feel free to resize and adjust to your preferences
To walk you through this layout we have numbered each of the tool windows and will describe the functionality of each
1. Price Chart displaying News Markers that relate to the articles shown in the News Feed Window (3) and Reader window (4). Markers correspond chronologically to articles in the news feed window.
2. Top stories displaying the most recent top headlines for the entire market.
3. News feed window displaying all stories/videos for the active symbol in the Price Chart (1), stories are shown chronologically with the latest stories at the top of the window.
4. Reader window displaying the full news story or video of either the selected story in the News Feed window (3) or the selected News Marker on the chart (1) .
As you select News stories in the News Feed window the Reader window will populate with that story and the corresponding news marker will be highlighted, see this example selecting a story from 8/2/24
Note the News Marker on the chart is displaying 19/26, indicating the story we selected in the News Feed window happens to be chronologically the 19th story published that day out of 26. The number of stories will vary depending on the Feeds you have enabled, in this example we have all the feeds (including videos) enabled.
Use the right and left arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through stories in either the News Feed window or through the News Markers
You can click directly on a news marker to read that story in the reader window, here we will click on a marker from 7/30/2024
On this particular date there were 2 stories published, you can left click on the news marker a second time to populate the earlier story in the reader window. It should also be noted that while the News Feed window will not jump to that story the story will be highlighted in the feed.
Selecting one of the Top Stories will populate that story in the Reader window but will not change the charted symbol or the news feed window.
