How to Understand Commonly Used Terms

Below are some quick definitions for commonly used terms used in various functions and tools within TC2000.

Layout Terms

Layout--a collection of simultaneously displayed and fully integrated tool windows. These can include WatchLists, charts, notes & news, EasyScans, reports and trading windows. They can be arranged in any configuration and saved to reuse in other Layout groups.

Layout Group--a group of different Layout Tabs that are saved and opened together.

Floating window--a Layout Tab that opens as an independent window from the main program. These fully functioning Layout Tabs can be populated with multiple tool windows. They can be dragged onto a secondary monitor(s) and saved within a Layout Group.

Target mode--when adding, moving or arranging tool windows within a Layout Tab, a target menu appears. The menu allows the window to be docked to the left, right, above or below an existing window in the Layout Tab or tabbed with an existing window in the Layout.

Tool Window--a movable window which contains a WatchList, chart, note or news feed, EasyScan, report or trading log.

Tabbed Window--tool windows that share the same space in a Layout Tab distinguished by tabs at the top of the window.

Docked Window--a tool window that is connected to another in adjacent space within the Layout Tab.

Undocked window--a tool window that is hovering but not yet attached to a Layout Tab. It can be tabbed or docked, but not dragged onto a separate monitor.

Chart Terms

Plot--a visual representation of unique information placed on a chart. For example, price history, technical studies, historical fundamentals, comparison symbols, etc.

Plot style--the chosen style of a plot. Choices include line, bar, candlesticks and area. Plot styles vary with and are unique to each plot.

Pane--a section of a chart window containing one or more plots. A chart can contain multiple panes and each pane can contain multiple plots.

Overlay--the method of combining multiple plots in a single pane. A plot overlayed on top of another can be scaled with or independently from the other plot(s) in the pane.

Pin--this function allows a plot to be toggled temporarily between visible and hidden status on a chart without actually removing it.

Chart template--a chart window containing a specific configuration of price history, indicators, fundamentals or other plots.

Chart Toolbar--a customizable group of functions (icons) and/or data placed at the top of a chart. Some are default

Chart properties--user-set characteristics that determine how a chart will look (e.g. color, plot styles, scale, etc).

Symbol watermark--a customizable watermark on each chart that contains the symbol, company name, industry and sector of the active symbol.

Time-frame--the bar interval for the price history which controls all plots on a chart. Options available from tick to annual charts.

Time-frame picker--drop down menu to select the chart time-frame.

Time-span--the amount of historical data shown from the beginning to the end of a selected chart.

Time-frame link--an option to link the content of any tool window to the time-frame selected for the main price chart.

Zoom--the tool to increase or decrease the amount of historical data shown from the beginning to the end of a selected chart.

Pan--the tool to move backward or forward in time for the price history on the chart.

Bid/Ask Marker--small blue markers next to the price scale update the bid and ask prices in real-time.

Scale--a display of the scale of movement for the main price graph and all indicator graphs on the chart. Each graph in the chart has its own scale settings.

Grid--customizable axis lines on a chart representing value levels for the value scale or date/time points for the date scale.

Forecast space--optional space created at the right (scale) end of a chart into which charting features (like drawing tools) can "project" into the future allowing analysis of price levels, etc.

Pointer Mode--a crosshairs tool and data box that display the values for all visible chart indicators at any point the cursor touches the chart.

Drawing Tool--tools used to annotate charts with trendlines, text, Fibonacci levels, shapes, etc.

Drawing Board--an system for organizing drawing tools that allows for specific drawings to be stored separately for any reason.

Marker--automatic notations on the chart that represent personal notes, splits and dividends.

Symbol Terms

Active symbol--the currently selected stock symbol displayed on the chart.

Jump to--the typing tool used to navigate to the chart for any stock symbol in the system.

Spacebar--the navigational tool to move symbol by symbol through a WatchList. (Ctrl + Spacebar navigates backwards through a WatchList.)

Flag--a tool for gathering various stocks on the fly into a single WatchList. Flags display in a WatchList column and on the chart.

Symbol link--an option to link the content of any tool window to the stock symbol selected from any WatchList.

Slide show--a mode that allows for automatic movement through a WatchList of stocks based on a selected display time.

Comparison symbol--a secondary symbol(s) placed on a price chart to compare with the main symbol either by actual price movement or price performance.

Watchlist Terms

WatchList--a list of stocks grouped together for a specific reason (e.g. Index, Sector, Industry).

System WatchLists--WatchLists created and maintained by TC2000.

Personal WatchList--WatchLists created and maintained by individual users.

WatchList tracking--various tools by which the activity or performance of stocks within a specific personal WatchList can be tracked from the date they are entered.

Column--information (e.g. price changes, indicator values, formula results, etc.) displayed as an individual column within a WatchList window for each symbol in the list.

Column set--a specific group of individual columns created and saved for reuse.

Tag Column--a column containing tag icons for symbols in personal WatchLists

Sort--the tool whereby all symbols in a WatchList can be ranked by any criteria simply by clicking a column header.

Flagged Items--a special WatchList created on the fly and used for grouping stocks of interest to the user.

Favorites--a special personal WatchList created on the fly and used for grouping stocks of interest to the user.

Related Items/Member of WatchList--a special WatchList containing 4 tabs automatically synchronized to active symbol. Sector Components; Industry Components; Holdings (for list-based symbols); Symbol (ETFs and Indexes that hold that stock you are viewing)

Premarket/Postmarket WatchList--a special WatchList automatically populated for trading outside normal market hours (4-9:30a.m./4-8p.m.). If a stock has one trade that occurs outside market hours, it automatically is added to this WatchList. Prior to market open the list is called Premarket. After market open it is called Postmarket. (Real-time service is required to view this WatchList).

EasyScan Terms

EasyScan--the scanning tool by which multiple conditions (behaviors) for price and indicators can be combined to find the stocks in any WatchList that meet those defined conditions.

Streaming--data that flows continuously into TC2000 without need for any manual updates. Data in Platinum streams in real-time; in Gold it is 15-minutes delayed.

Condition--a defined behavior for a plot or between multiple plots. (E.g. Price crossing up through its moving average.)

Condition Set--a defined set (more than one) of behaviors for a plot or multiple plots.

Condition Column--a sortable column created by a condition/condition set that contains a checkmark for each symbol in the WatchList that meets the condition(s)

Personal Criteria Formula (PCF)--a simple language used to create custom conditions or indicators specific to the individual user.

Flex Condition--a special condition that allows multiple behaviors to be grouped in a single conditions. The behaviors can happen in sequence or not, but must happen within a defined period of bars.

Default List to Scan--a default WatchList that will be automatically scanned/sorted by condition(s) in a new window

Trading Terms

Simulated trading--practice trading using TC2000 trading tools in a paper trading account.

Brokerage account--live trading using TC2000 trading tools in a brokerage trading account.

Order type--the type of order used in a paper or brokerage trade transaction (e.g. market, limit, stop, etc.)

Order ticket--an electronic form by which all details of an order are set and the order is placed in a paper or brokerage account. TC2000 offers both a full trading ticket and an on-chart ticket for trading from the chart.

Order ticket default--a predefined set of saved order instructions. When applied to a symbol, the actual values matching the default ticket instructions are automatically filled in the order ticket.

Order confirmation--the step in the order process whereby the user confirms and places the order in either a practice or brokerage account.

Modify Order--the process of changing some or all of the parameters of an existing order and re-submitting with the new criteria (cancel and replace).

Paper account--a practice trading account set up by the user for the purpose of simulating trades and learning the trading tools in TC2000.

Portfolio--the stocks currently held in a practice or brokerage trading account.

Account summary--a toolbar containing the current status of a practice or brokerage trading account including stocks held long or short, cash value, buying power, etc.

General Terms

Custom Date Sort--a tool by which a selected WatchList can be sorted for a specific time period defined by the user.

Pre-built--any tool created by TC200 and included automatically in the program (e.g. there are pre-built WatchLists, Layout Tabs/Groups, Formula, etc.)

Personal notes--user created notes attached to specific charts during the process of analysis. These can include attachments (Charts, Layouts, EasyScans).

Alert--a trigger activated by user-defined conditions that prompts any combination of email, text, audio or visual notifications.

Alert console--the tool for managing, reviewing and logging all alerts.

Data feed--forms of information that feed the tools of TC2000 (e.g. price data, fundamentals, news, etc.)

Data source--the data on which an indicator is based and calculated.

T2 Market Indicators--TC2000 list-based indicators designed and used to analyze broader market conditions.

Stock Report--a collection of data on any individual stock (e.g. price information, indicator values, fundamentals) designed by the user and presented in a report format.

Condition Count Report--a report using multiple Condition Sets which return a count (number of symbols meeting the condition/s) on a streaming basis

TCMail--an "email" facility within TC2000 for the purpose of allowing individual users to communicate with each other without leaving the program.

Notification--email or text messages generated within TC2000 by either an alert trigger or a trading transaction.

Profile--personal information concerning identity, payment, services and approved devices for each individual user of TC2000.
